    News Apply for studies at KHiB in 2016 Ellen Røed s research fellowhip has become a book Exhibition about the new KHiB building in Rom8 ROUTEMASTER curates colors of belonging The Stories We Tell Open seminar about illustration About KHiB Department of Design Department of Fine Art Visit us Newsletter Vacancies Vacancies list About Bergen Academy of Art and Design Galleri Bokboden Galleri Fisk Staff Staff at Department of Design Staff at Department of Fine Art Administration Strategy plan 2012 2016 KHiB Library Artistic Research The Sensuous Knowledge Conference The Sensuous Knowledge Conference Share The Sensuous Knowledge Conferences started in 2004 as an international venue for presentation and discussion of artistic research projects The overriding purpose of these three day working conferences is to contribute to the creation and refining of a discourse for critical reflection on artistic research The conference series are noted for their special format The few acclaimed keynote speeches in plenary sessions are inspiring backgrounds for the rigorous work in smaller groups where participants present their own artistic research projects Here they and commented and discussed by peers The conference s format is structured so that the groups remain the same throughout the whole conference enabling the discussions to develop and evolve The Bergen Academy of Art and Design has had the initiative and sole responsibility for the six conferences that have been arranged up to now all at Solstrand by one of the fjords just South of Bergen Three of these conferences had funding from the Norwegian Research Council Website for Archive of SK conferences 2004 2009 The conference also spawned a publication series The Sensuous Knowledge publication series Sensuous Knowedge 7 Sensuous Knowledge 7 was held in Bergen 23 25 January 2013 The SK 7conference was a unique collaboration between Art Museums of Bergen

  • MA Study Programme in Fine Art
    Art MA Study Programme in Fine Art Share MA studies provides the graduate student with artistic methodological and theoretical tools to work professionally within the field of contemporary art The programme aims to help students develop a deeper understanding of art and related areas of contemporary culture The current focus upon research within higher education will influence the further integration of practice and critical reflection and will influence the ways in which practice and theory are discussed at MA level The MA study programme in Fine Art is project based This means that each student defines her his own artistic project which is developed over a two year period through personal study experimentation critique and discussion with tutors and fellow students Broad range of media materials methods and techniques KHiB has facilities to work within and across a broad range of media materials and techniques and students may combine these in a way that best suits the theme and the objectives of their MA project Study at MA level is centred around the student s own MA project which may be formulated and developed in relation to any given medium or combination of media supported by the facilities at the Academy Bergen Academy of Art and Design has workshops technical expertise and tutorial support for work with a range of media and materials including ceramics textiles printmaking photography painting sculpture installation performance sound video and digital art An MA project does not need to be medium media specific it may be based on other criteria including site specificity social relations and interdisciplinary collaboration In addition to working on the development of the individual MA project each student is required to participate in group activities including seminars lecture series group critiques and short courses aimed at sharpening critical focus and communication

  • MA Study Programme in Design
    Department s two specialities address similar issues At the core is an interdisciplinary public project training for teamwork development of concepts and ideas during an open process with external partners The personal focus of the MA programme is characterised and guided by the student s own definition of his her role as designer and also by how the individual contextualises his her project The MA project is tutored In addition the students are obliged to present their projects in plenary sessions for peer and tutor feedback These presentations are natural milestones in the project s progress The MA projects intend to develop an ability and willingness to venture beyond design s borders moving in the span between a user oriented approach and experiments in surfaces and means The MA programme in design is a comprehensive professional education Visual communication and furniture and spatial design interior architecture The programme primarily covers the subject areas of visual communication and furniture and spatial design interior architecture but not in a narrow sense The department encourages a cross disciplinary approach in relation to traditional subject boundaries and traditional ways of thinking within the subject areas The main elements of the MA programme The main elements of the programme provide support for the work on the master s project but are also intended to develop a relevant wide ranging competence as a designer The elements range from practical workshop and studio courses to courses intended to place design activities in a broader context The master s project The master s project is an artistic research project that is developed over the course of four semesters in close contact with the department s academic staff This provides the time and space to develop ideas and the opportunity to conduct research for example in order to gain insights regarding the users and situations you are designing for It will also make it possible to think out of the box and challenge conventional solutions Writing courses The programme s three writing courses are intended to support students in their work on the written part of the MA project but they also aim to provide a more general competence for writing different types of texts that are relevant to their professional practice Interdisciplinary projects These are projects with a duration of two to three weeks that focus on different aspects of the reality the students will be faced with as they begin their professional lives The projects emphasise interdisciplinary cooperation as well as cooperation with external partners Subject specific elements projects The programme also offers a handful of courses and projects that deal with different aspects of the subject area but often linked to a specific target group Taught by external designers who have distinguished themselves in the field in which they are teaching Theory and critical reflection Different topics from the fields of communication methods and marketing are dealt with in series of lectures These lectures also serve as a framework for discussions and writing papers Idea development
