    Visit us Newsletter Vacancies Vacancies list About Bergen Academy of Art and Design Galleri Bokboden Galleri Fisk Staff Staff at Department of Design Staff at Department of Fine Art Administration Strategy plan 2012 2016 KHiB Library Studies BA Study Programme in Fine Art Sound Sound Share The sense of listening forms a unique platform from which particular ways of perceiving and experiencing our surroundings are nurtured Sound is a temporal and invisible material circulating through space and bringing us into contact with each other outside the dynamics of seeing visual representation and the power of the gaze The particular behaviors of sound and listening are brought into play within the sound arts Since John Cage and the post war culture of the 1950s and 60s sound as a specific theoretical and aesthetical question has gained prominence leading to a highly dynamic history of experimental works crossing over from composition to installation to performance With the intensification of digital culture practices of sound art continue to expand finding additional support with the emergence of sound studies within the social sciences How does sound operate to locate us within cultural and social life In what ways might we investigate sound as a specific experience as well as develop related discourses and practices What do the sound arts suggest in terms of particular aesthetical materials and artistic strategies Studies in sound focus on experimental media practice spatial and installation strategies kinetic and acoustic sculpture and performance work and methods Students are able to develop skills in audio recording and digital editing installation and spatial techniques surround sound and soundtrack work In addition studies incorporate research in the areas of field recording social and relational praxis and theories of listening and the senses Studies in sound are also supported through the sound studio and

  • BA studies in Furniture and Spatial Design
    emphasised based on thorough investigation of consumer needs In order to design for a rapidly changing society students are encouraged to approach their professional practice with creativity innovation and critique The BA programme in Furniture and Spatial Design Interior Architecture is the first part of an MA programme available at KHiB The five year education is the most advanced programme available in this subject area It corresponds with educations furniture designers and interior architects cooperate with professionally within subjects like architecture civil engineering and industrial design Career opportunities Interior architects cooperate with architects and sivil engineers in planning new structures or redeveloping existing structures They work with area design furnishing plans lighting interiors colours and materials in addition to developing new furniture designs adapted to a particular structure space Essential components are functionality ergonomics maintenance economy environmental issues and aesthetics Furniture designers cooperate with other designers interior architects architects and engineers on designing furniture and other products for Norwegian and international industries It is also common to develop integrated special design solutions for outdoor spaces as well These are tasks former students work with in their careers in architectural interior architect or design offices or within their own companies The education also offers opportunities to work with exhibition design stage design in TV film and theatre education management and public and private administration Designers also establish careers in public office as industrial CEOs or as writers and journalists What we teach The education offers courses in lighting form and colour construction and technique materials production feasibility studies design process prototyping public environments space and movement technical drawing living spaces industrial furniture design etc Software courses are available wherever relevant Courses are also offered in furniture and design history text design method ergonomics communication and design theory Ethical and ecological questions are naturally integrated in the education Project examples in the latter years Convert an existing silo to an innovative hotel Make the terminal building at Bergen Airport more functional improve visual and communication qualities Design furniture and build prototypes for the international Stockholm Furniture Fair Re shape rejected objects to new products like tables chairs or lighting What are students expected to learn The BA programme in furniture spatial design interior architecture offers basic as well as extensive professional expertise within a wide spectrum of skills knowledge and attitudes Students are expected to be brave conceptual and unconventional in their thinking and to develop strong formal and functional design solutions The fundamental structure in the programme is to find suitable solutions to problems based on a thorough analysis of users or situations Students are expected to develop their empathic skills creative and analytical skills and to think comprehensively in order to design solutions for improved quality of life for the users Theory supports critical reflection on the students design activities In order to design for future needs it is essential to understand design s role in a changing society How do we teach The first section of the BA programme
