  • Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center - 161 - Video analysis of injuries in World Cup alpine skiing
injuries leading to long term absence from training and competition Knee injuries is the main problem and the most frequent type of injury is rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament ACL To reduce the risk of injury among World Cup skiing athletes we have to know why and how injuries occur So far knowledge on injury risk factors and mechanisms in skiing is limited and little scientific documentation is available

eating disorders among elite athletes have been performed and strategies to prevent eating disorders are lacking Thus the aims of this study are to examining the prevalence of eating disorders among young elite athletes followed by an intervention intended to reduce the risk for young elite athletes to develop eating disorders Methods The project consists of two parts A survey and a randomized controlled intervention study The survey involved both athletes and coaches and took place during the fall 2008 In pre and posttests the survey will include both standardized tests and own developed questions and a clinical interview with the athletes The sample is the total population of first grade students starting in the fall 2008 at Elite Sport High Schools in Norway There are sixteen schools divisions containing 711 athletes and 194 coaches attending the project After this survey half of the schools were randomly selected for participation in the intervention while the second half continued with regular lectures as the projects control group The intervention included lectures and exercises in different areas which are considered important in the preventing eating disorders The intervention started in the spring in 2009 and was completed in May 2010 The first

  • Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center - 157 - Injury registration in goalkeepers in Tippeligaen and Adeccoligaen
goalkeeper has an important role in defense play and is crucial for the team Goalkeepers often have specialized training regimes and professional clubs have their own goalkeeper coach Goalkeepers have other assignments during the game than other players and goalkeepers may directly influence the outcome of the match more often than other players Due to this difference in assignments between goalkeeping and other playing positions it is reasonable to guess that high risk situations and injury characteristics differ from each other Thus the purpose of this study is to explore incidence and severity of injuries in elite male goalkeepers Further the study will describe injury characteristics and high risk situations for goalkeepers during one competitive season in Norwegian professional football league Tippeligaen Methods In this one season 30th of March 9th of November cohort study we will prospectively register injuries and videos Subjects included are elite male goalkeepers with A squad contract in Tippeligaen and Adeccoligaen Injury registration is completed using standardized forms and includes injury characteristics such as localization severity and situation description Fuller et al 2006 Injury registration includes injuries from both training and matches league cup e cup and friendly matches The goalkeeper is responsible for completing

  • Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center - 192 - Compliance with the 11+ injury prevention program in youth female football players
documentation of compliance with injury prevention programs in sports The information of factors influencing compliance is insufficient and the relationship between attitudes and compliance with prevention programs is not yet documented The aim of this investigation is to assess team and player compliance with a comprehensive warm up program The 11 designed to reduce the risk of injuries in football to examine the differences in injury risk among teams and players with different levels of compliance and to assess attitudes towards injury prevention among coaches and their association with compliance and injury risk Methods This study is part of a larger randomized controlled trial aimed to prevent injuries in youth female football players The 11 More than 125 clubs with female players aged 14 16 yrs will be randomized to either an intervention or a control group The intervention group will be introduced to The 11 warm up program throughout the 2007 football season Compliance with the warm up program exposure in training and match as well as injuries sustained will be recorded prospectively At the end of the football season all coaches participating with their teams in the intervention group will be interviewed to assess coaches attitudes motivational factors

  • Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center - 159 - Overuse injuries in professional road cycling
1994 Holmes et al 1994 The incidence and severity of such injuries is poorly reported in the literature A majority of epidemiological investigations in cycling have been conducted on recreational cyclists often those competing in mass participation tours Kulund and Brubaker 1978 Weiss 1985 Wilber et al 1995 Dannenburg et al 1996 however there are several reasons why highly competitive cyclists may experience a different pattern of overuse injuries than the subjects in these studies including a much higher training and racing volume an altered body position on the bicycle to improve rider aerodynamics and an altered choice of equipment This hypothesis is somewhat supported by the few studies that have been published on elite cyclists Callaghan and Jarvis 1996 Barrio et al 1995 however various methodological issues in these papers prevents meaningful conclusions to be drawn The purpose of this study is therefore to ascertain more valid measures of the location prevalence and severity of overuse injuries in this cohort In addition several other variables that may have a relationship to overuse injury will also be investigated including the strength training core stability training and stretching practices of professional cyclists and the degree of float they use in their pedal cleat systems Methods The design is a retrospective cohort study Members of several professional teams will be asked to give information about the location severity and duration of overuse injuries sustained during the 2008 season as well as to complete standardised questionnaires on low back pain anterior knee pain and other information relating to their training volume and practices Data collection will take place during the winter 2008 2009 at the training camps of participating teams The previous investigations into competitive and recreational cyclists as well as the anecdotal literature suggest that knee pain and lower back pain are
