    matron Gudrun Baade Jensen who at the time worked at Dale Psychiatric Hospital She used the farm as a nursing home for older demented women as the idyllic surroundings in Vatne was a perfect place for relaxing and rehabilitation In 1953 Kjell and Sygni Steinsvåg bought Kronen Gaard or Trødne as it was known at the time The word trødne is derived from the dialects word for to step or walk and the property was given the name because the cows used the area as a refuge in this marshy ground when the rain and several springs caused flooding Kjell and Sygni continued to run the property as a mental institution but also rented the property to Rogaland psychiatric Hospital in the 1980s as a psychiatric nursing home In 1986 Kjell and Sygni changed the name of Trødne to Kronen Gaard Hotell they refurbished the buildings and opened up for socializing and celebrations yet again With their religious background they did not apply for an alcohol licence but decided to keep a teetotal profile This proved difficult at the end of the eighties when the Yuppies popped champagne east and west so in 1993 their son Helmer Steinsvåg became the new owner of Kronen Gaard Hotell He applied for an alcohol licence and a new era started After several extensions Kronen Gaard Hotell now has 34 rooms both historic and modern great function rooms and a restaurant renowned for classic Norwegian Cuisine Some history of the different function rooms and rooms at Kronen Gaard Kronesalen When the property was a nursing home for demented women Kronesalen was their work room so you would find the women doing their knitting sewing and crocheting while talking excitedly Room 103 and 104 Rooms 103 and 104 were used for isolation for particularily difficult
