  • KSAT supported the NASA NPP launch on October 28, 2011 | Kongsberg Satellite Services
    SG25 all pointed to the satellite when it came over the horizon for the first time The first orbit was tracking for all antennas and they all acquired the satellite as planned On the second orbit KSAT had successful commanding through the antenna SG 4 and also a successful s band telemetry dump After this NPP increased S band data rates and started turning on the instruments The first orbit with X band SMD 300Mbps transmitter turned on came the next day following a few orbits with modulation X band HRD 15Mbps RT was turned on at orbit 35 were NPP dumped 300Mbps SMD at the same time Operation is going on without any problems NASA is helping to create a new generation of satellites to extend these global environmental observations A critical next step in this transition is the NPOESS Preparatory Project NPP Is a part of the Joint Polar Satellite System JPSS which NASA is developing for NOAA NPP is a satellite that carries five very different instruments to monitor the environment on Earth and the planet s climate NPP measurements will be used to map land cover and monitor changes in vegetation productivity NPP tracks atmospheric ozone
